The Office of The Ombudsman is the community’s
independent watchdog of public administration. In
2008/09, we received some 14,000 enquiries and 5,400
complaints. Our investigations have resulted in 153
recommendations for improvement. Most have been accepted
by the organisations concerned and we monitor their
implementation. |

Senior Translation Officer
Duties
(a)
Translates Chinese into English
and vice versa;
(b)
Vets
translations and documents prepared by other officers;
(c)
Drafts Chinese documents and papers;
(d)
Provides interpretation services at press conferences, meetings
and interviews;
(e)
Compiles glossaries of terms; and
(f)
Provides professional advice on the use of Chinese.
Entry Requirements
Candidates should have a
recognised degree from a Hong Kong university in Translation,
Language Studies or Literature, or equivalent, with Grade
C/Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language
(Syllabus B) in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education
Examination, or equivalent. They should have at least 10 years'
experience in full-time translation work and be proficient in
English and Chinese word-processing. A good command of
Putonghua and experience in supervising and vetting translation
work are added advantages.
Candidates with less than the experience required may be
considered for appointment at a lower entry salary.
Remuneration and Terms
Basic salary around HK$46,400 plus HK$8,500 cash
allowance a month. Benefits include paid leave, medical &
dental insurance and death & disability insurance.
Successful candidates will be appointed on 3-year contract terms
with a gratuity on completion of contract which, when added to
the employer's contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund
scheme, equals 15% of the total basic salary for the contract
period. Renewal of contract will be offered to good performers
subject to service need.
